Happy Birthday, Dad!

Within two hours I snapped over 550 photos of my little siblings - AWESOME!
These guys really know how to ham it up for the camera. Today's photo was a throwaway - but how could I leave it out? She had me spin the swing until it reached it's limit, then let go - too funny! This is just when it snapped to spin in reverse. Am I a bad sister for posting this? No waaaay!

You can have the snow,
and keep the sandy beaches-
I prefer the moss.

On a whim, I caught a different bus route home today and ended up seeing an old, old friend in the process. Butteflies? Check. Nausea? Double check.

He was parking his car, just a block or two from the next major stop. That bus idled for a ruthlessly long time as the wrestling match in my head flopped between ditching my ride to say hello, and continuing on my path. Or was it my path to see him for the first time in years? How does one tell? And why isn’t there some helpful gadget for these momentous forks in the road - something watch-shaped, and discreet (for those of us who occasionally still clutch on to their egos)? The bus finally took off before I could throw myself out of the rear exit and hit the pavement running to catch up with my old friend. I wonder what he was doing in my neck of the woods...

I want to go back to my little grass shack in Kealakekua, Hawaaaaaaaaaii, where the Humuhumunukunukuapuaa goes swimming by – but I'm actually going back to work. Farewell sweet Winter break, I’ll miss you. So long to your cold, windy days, providing me with hours of leisurely solitude at home, with my inconsistent heating scheme and attention-whore cat. Until next time!

This image is not what I was going for but it was the closest out of the set.

This sand is from a beach on Kauai - the best kind of gift! Thanks, Claudia!

New Year's Day!

A different year! More music, better health, new adventures.

The plan for the first day of 2010 was to explore Bellingham on foot - but it threatened to rain through most of the day so we played video games. To balance out our couch-potato mentality, in the afternoon we walked down to the waterfront and ignored the clouds.

I didn't know the docks were open to the public! Would I enjoy taking to sea for the rest of my life, more than I'd enjoy living on land? Maybe! The ocean was especially beautiful on a windy day like this. The waves were being thrown onto our path when we finally decided to head home. AWESOME!
